At UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital, many departments are put on stand-by to help tackle the coronavirus.
The radiology department’s Bobbi Lawless started sewing masks for the past week. Lawles says it’s just as important to know how to handle the mask itself.
“You just want to put it over your face, and then over your ears. If you want to make any adjustments to the mask you’ll want to do it from the bottom or the sides. You just don’t want to touch the front of the mask because then you’ve contaminated it,” Lawless says.
After someone is done heading out into public the mask should be thrown in the wash. If the user wants to take it off in the car, they should make sure their hands are clean.
The mask can be customized on the straps with hair ties and elastic.
