These pictures taken in Leicester yesterday show members of the public queuing to get into another re-opened DIY store.
Leicester residents have been seen queuing to get into the Homebase in Putney Road, which opened yesterday morning (Saturday May 2).
The DIY retail giant re-opened all of its stores across the country yesterday.
The company said: “Following a successful trial, our stores across the UK have now reopened, with strict controls in place to ensure shopping is safe.”
Markers to enforce the two-metre rule for queuing outside the store have been set up and inside, customers are told to maintain social distancing.
As well as queues outside Homebase, there were also big queues outside the Range at Abbey Retail Park in St Margaret’s Way.
The store has remained open throughout lockdown, and yesterday shoppers were out in numbers to get their DIY supplies and essentials.
When lockdown was first imposed, Alex Simpkin, the CEO said customers relied on them to ‘provide essential items like food and groceries’.
The statement read: “Our store teams have been briefed on the latest government health and safety guidelines and are taking the necessary actions to help ensure the safety of our customers and colleagues.
“This includes the implementation of enhanced cleaning routines and social distancing.
“For the safety of other shoppers and staff, we ask that you keep a distance of at least 2m (6ft) apart and avoid physical contact as far as possible while shopping in store with us.
“We also request that, where possible, you pay by contactless card to reduce the risk of contamination.”

A Leicester Tesco also saw huge queues yesterday and customers waited patiently to go in and buy what they needed.
Many customers at all the stores could be seen wearing face masks and gloves for protection against the coronavirus.
The coffee chain Costa also reopened 29 stores nationwide for drive-thru and delivery services.
This included Costa’s store at St George’s Retail Park, in the city for delivery only.
