The Lucid Air has been marked somewhat without having been introduced yet. Lucid’s first electric has more than a year to hit the market, but it has already earned the title of the world’s most aerodynamic electric car, ahead of Porsche and Tesla.
Vehicles now have designs with smooth lines, continuous, sinuous curves. Gone are the square cars of the last century and the blame for this is aerodynamic efficiency. The objective is decrease air resistance on the car surface.
The less front surface the car has, less resistance to the air it will have when circulating, which translates into lower fuel consumption or the battery (explained in a very simple way). This is what has announced this week the Lucid luxury car company, a higher level of drag coefficient in one of your cars.
The Lucid Air, as explained in the statement, has obtained a drag coefficient of 0.21, this would make it the most aerodynamic luxury vehicle in the world. Behind it are the Porsche Taycan Turbo with a coefficient of 0.22 and the Tesla Model 3 with 0.23.
“Our aerodynamic team worked seamlessly with its design and engineering counterparts, establishing aeronautical efficiency as a basic principle of Lucid Air from its inception, allowing us to achieve this new standard.” Explain Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO, Lucid Motors.
They achieved that benchmark at the Windshear facility in Concord, North Carolina, in one of the most advanced automotive wind tunnels in the world. The brand has been inspired by the design of Formula One racing cars to design your Lucid Air.
Although aerodynamics has been part of the motor industry for many years, has become especially important with the appearance of electric vehicles. The higher the aerodynamics of a car, the less its manufacturer depends on the size of the battery in order to achieve optimum efficiency.
This is the first sustainable mobility model presented by Lucid Motors and its launch is scheduled for September 2021. Being so aerodynamic could mean an increase of a few kilometers more for the 640 km that it already has approved on a single charge.
