Seawater desalination machines have been around for a long time, but they are very expensive and are used on an industrial level. Quench Be the world’s first portable and cheap desalination device. It hardly costs 50 euros and can convert seawater into drinking water. It not only desalinates, it also sanitizes.
Quench Sea has been devised for emergency situations, hikers, adventurers, and people who do not have access to clean water, but they live by the sea.
It is amazing not only because of how cheap and small it is, but because does not need a battery or use any type of energy, except human: it works in manual mode. You can see how it works its magic in this video:
The process that converts seawater into drinking water is complex, but at the same time simple to carry out.
The key is to move a crank that is removed from the device, which is used to increase the seawater pressure to 60 bars, by means of a hydraulic mechanism. A high pressure reverse osmosis system removes salt from the water.
He triple filter It also removes suspended solids, pathogens, viruses, bacteria, and microplastics. A last 0.01 micron thick membrane finishes separating the rest of the contaminants.
Then an activated carbon filter absorbs odors and flavors. The result is drinking water without taste or smell.
Quench Sea can produce up to 3 liters of drinking water per hour. Not bad for a portable, manual, iron-sized device that weighs less than a pound.
Looking for financing in Indigogo, but has already raised 531% of what it needed. If you want to get one it costs about 53 euros, with shipping from February of next year. You can also donate one to an NGO, for about 28 euros.
