What if I told you there was a way you could get a great, intense workout in the comfort of your own home? No, I’m not trying to sell you the latest fitness gadget. In fact, I’m warning you against buying anything you see on late night TV commercials.
You see, all you really need to get into incredible shape is your own bodyweight and a pair of dumbbells. I prefer adjustable dumbbells, because then you can change up the weight based on the exercise that you perform. In addition, when you get stronger, it will be easier and cheaper to buy individual weight plates then to buy sets of dumbbells.
Currently, I’m combining bodyweight and dumbbell exercises into a single workout. This allows me to get a great fat burning and muscle building workout. You can actually burn fat and build muscle with bodyweightexercises, but bodyweight exercises are known more for their fat burning benefits.
The same goes with dumbbell training. However, dumbbells are better for mass gain since you can make the exercise more difficult simply by adding weight.
How to Improve your Fitness with Dumbbell and Bodyweight Exercises
So, exactly how do you improve your fitness with dumbbell and bodyweight exercises? How do you create such incredible workouts that will have you sweating and panting at the end as if you just raced against an Olympic sprinter? Well, the key is to use intensity techniques.
My favorite intensity techniques include circuit and interval training. Circuit training is where you choose two or more exercises and perform them back to back with little to no rest in between. Circuit training is one of the most versatile training methods around.
Interval training is where you perform an exercise for a short period of time, followed by a short rest period. My favorite interval workout is to perform intense jump roping for 30 seconds, followed by a 30 second break. These interval workouts are absolutely crucial if your goal is to burn lots of fat.
Developing the Workout
Teaching someone how to design a workout is one of the most difficult things I’ve tried to do. The reason is that in order to develop a really great, intense workout, you need years of practice and observation. A complete beginner will not be able to just sit there and create an effective workout at the first go.
The key to an effective fitness program is the training diary. The reason I can create such effective workouts is because I’ve kept a training log for many years and know exactly what needs to be done in order to push my body to the next level. My workouts are well balanced and intense.
However, for a complete beginner, he or she will have to do a lot of guessing and experimenting. That’s how I started off. What I should have done is purchased a solid program and then used that as a template to help me create intense workouts for the future.
